Type Locality and Naming
SUBSURFACE: Well MND-8, Interval is 3204-3838 m and thickness is 634 m. [Original Publication: Raju D.S.N, Dwivedi R.N, Misra Ravi, Stratigraphy of Mahanadi Basin, (2009) pp 293-296 in Raju and Misra (2009), ONGC Bulletin, Vol. 44, no.2]
Synonyms: Lower part of Sequence-II of Mohapatra, 2006 and stages M-6 and M-7 of Pandey (1986).
Lithology and Thickness
Sandy claystone. Predominantly shale with some sand layers. About 630 m in the type section.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Lower boundary to Kalighat Fm is a pronounced erosional unconformity and subaerial exposures with major hiatus; but is conformable in MND-8 (?)
Upper contact
Upper boundary to Konark Fm is unconformable and hiatus is >12 Myr (in shallow)

Fossils
Nummulites pengaroenensis in lower part, Eulepidina dialata in the middle part, Globigerina ampliapertura, G. selli, Sphaeroidia bullodes, Globigerinoides primordius and Cyclammina sp., in the upper part of the type section.
Age
Depositional setting
Shallow marine conditions in the lower part while outer shelf/upper bathyal conditions in the upper part prevailed in the type section.
